Last night I made my first solo foray into baking. These are Tuxedo Bars that I’m taking to a friend’s house today. They’re a recipe out of “Mrs. Fields Cookie Book” that my mom’s been making for years. Here’s the recipe, if you’re interested in trying it out.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup salted butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3 cups (18 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
1 Tbs pure vanilla extract
4 Tbs hot water
4 large eggs
1 cup (6 oz) white chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl combine flour and soda with a wire whisk, and set aside.
In a small saucepan melt butter and 2 cups of the semisweet chocolate chips
over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
In a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed, beat chocolate mixture and sugar until smooth, about 5 minutes. Continue to beat, add the vanilla, then the water a Tablespoon at a time. Scrape down sides of bowl. Next, add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add the flour mixture, blending at low speed. Then add the remaining 1 cup of semisweet chips and the white chocolate chips. Blend until equally distributed throughout the batter.
Spread batter into prepared baking pan. Bake 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out just slightly moist.
Cool to room temperature. Cover well and refrigerate until cold. Cut into bars to serve.
Yield: 18 servings
